Glasgowbury gets its tech on in Derry

Glasgowbury are delighted to announce that we will partner with the magnificent Culture Tech festival in Derry this year.

In the same vein as Glasgowbury does for new music, the annual Culture Tech event celebrates the growing digital sector across Northern Ireland with over 100 events throughout the city centre.

And as part of this year’s spectacular September celebration, Glasgowbury will curate and host a free ‘picnic’ style event in Derry city centre on Saturday 14th September.

The event will showcase nationally recognised homegrown talent alongside up-and-coming artists from across the region and full line-up details will be available in the coming months.

Festival organiser, Mark Nagurski, said: “CultureTECH was great fun in 2012, but this year’s festival is going to be enormous.

“Outside of the major events within the programme, the focus shifts to showcasing local talent through an Open Call for Northern Irish companies, digital artists, filmmakers and musicians. Something which CultureTECH is keen to promote.”

Glasgowbury are excited to be working alongside Mark and his team and would encourage all young, creative people from throughout the region to find out how the event can benefit them.

As part of this exciting partnership, Glasgowbury will soon have an exclusive announcement of our own to make regarding this year’s Eagle’s Rock bonanza –  so watch this space!

The Bonnevilles headline February G Session

For our first G Session of 2013 we’re pulling out all the stops with an eclectic line-up of the rawest talent around.

Taking over headlining duties on the night will be hard-rocking Lurgan blues duo The Bonnevilles.

The pair have won almost universal acclaim following the release of their second full length album ‘Folk Art And The Death Of Jesus’ and in 2011 played to a packed Spurs Of Rock tent at Glasgowbury.

Joining them for the experience will be young Derry foursome The Wood Burning Savages, themselves causing a stir with their incendiary live performances of late.

And capping off a joyous night of music will be young Mid-Ulster act The Last Generation who are gearing up for the release of a new EP.

The whole thing takes place on Saturday 23rd February with admissions just £5.

Glasgowbury expands to two day event

We are excited to announce that Glasgowbury will expand to a two day event for the first time in its history in 2013.

Northern Ireland’s Best Festival will link with Derry as the City of Culture in 2013 to include an exciting County Derry showcase on Friday 19th July before staging the best of the rest on Saturday 20th July.

And, in a unique twist, we are proud to be able to offer a two day festival for just the price of one!

“We understand that times are financially difficult and we want to make Glasgowbury an event that everyone can afford to attend,” said organiser Paddy Glasgow.

A festival and camping ticket at £45 will now include two days of entertainment while a festival only ticket at £35 permits entry to the event on Saturday as normal.

Our ‘small but massive’ event has provided a platform for some of the best in new and emerging homegrown talent from throughout Ireland since it started over 13 years ago – most recently welcoming Therapy?, The Japanese Popstars, Fighting With Wire and over 50 others to the 2012 edition of the festival.

The line-up for 2013 has yet to be announced but plans are in motion for another vibrant year.

“We’re excited to be growing the festival to offer an extra day’s entertainment and to be working with Derry as the City Of Culture to help make it a reality,” Paddy added.

“Plans for next year are beginning to take shape already and we have some exciting ideas that we’re working on so watch this space.”

Glasgowbury 2013 will return to its Eagle’s Rock home across the weekend of July 19th – 21st and tickets go on sale from Monday 5th November.

Here Comes The Landed Gentry return to G Sessions

GLASGOWBURY are proud to announce the return of Here Comes The Landed Gentry later this month for a local charity fundraising gig in Draperstown.

The iconic Derry band parted ways in 2010 prior to the launch of their debut album but have decided to step back into the ring this weekend.

Their appearance at the Cellar Bar in Draperstown in association with Glasgowbury’s G Sessions will help to raise some much-needed funds for a local charitable cause.

Before their departure from the local scene, the rockabilly five piece had established themselves as one of the country’s most promising live acts with incendiary live performances, particularly their shows at Glasgowbury.

They will be joined this weekend in a four act spectacular with support from fellow Derry act Ard Ri alongside Junior Johnson and comedy songwriter Digger Browne.

The night kicks off at the Cellar Bar in Draperstown this Saturday 20th October from 8pm and admission is just £5.

Vote Glasgowbury for Best Small Festival

Glasgowbury are proud to announce that we have been nominated in the 2012 UK Festival Awards.

The Draperstown based event has picked up a nod for Best Small Festival and are also in the running under the Best Toilets category.

The nomination follows two close calls for Glasgowbury who were voted second best in the Small Festival category in 2010 and runner-up for the Grassroots Festival award in 2011.

Hopefully it’s third time lucky for the ‘Small But Massive’ event as we look to firmly establish Glasgowbury as a strong contender  for one of the UK’s best events.

“We’ve just come out of what we feel has been one of the most enjoyable and exciting festivals yet,” said organiser Paddy Glasgow.

“Glasgowbury 2012 was a firm favourite amongst many of you who attended and saw some truly stunning performances and memorable moments that we will cherish for years to come.

“If you can spare a minute, please lend your support and vote for Glasgowbury,” he added.

You can vote Glasgowbury as the UK’s Best Small Festival and Best Toilets provider by clicking HERE.
