Songs In A Rural Key 2020

It’s with great pride and excitement that Glasgowbury presents the latest ‘Songs in a Rural Key’ CD.

This EP is the culmination of the 2019 workshops, with songs written during the course of the year and recorded in our own Small But Massive studios early 2020. The original tracks, composed by the young music makers with support from their mentors showcases a mix of genres including Rock, Electronic, Pop, R&B.

The kids and ourselves had a lot of fun in the workshops and the studio, making music, making friends, making memories! We hope you enjoy listening to their music as much as we all enjoyed making it!

The Rural Key programme is possible only with funding support and public donations. If you’re in a position to invest in the continued skills and personal development of young people we would love to hear from you!

The 2019/20 recordings and music videos were supported with funding from Awards for All Community Fund and Arts Council of NI Rural Needs Fund.

Sunday Unplugged – Blood

Looking forward to welcoming Sisters Jeanette & Noella Hutton for the Launch of there new ALBUM BLOOD

Sunday 24th February

BLOOD

The formation of BLOOD has been a project of years in the making. Sisters Jeanette and Noella have been involved in the music game for many years. Both began their individual musical careers at an early age at Primary School with choirs, folk groups etc. Both progressed to quite different musical careers. Noella as a very successful singer/songwriter and Jeanette successfully fronting a number of rock bands. Both have many different musical tastes but have always shared the same love and passion for all kinds of music delivered from the heart..

And so it came to pass that after many years of individual adventures across many parts of the world, both sisters settled in Derry and figured it was time to get the album done. They truly believed they couldn’t and shouldn’t ever push this.. When the time was right it would happen naturally for them and without fuss.

They began their project in the Summer of 2017. None of their writing days ever felt forced, they were usually made up of laughter, tears and a fair few cups of coffee and yarns.. J They never really had a recipe, theme or concept. They both agreed to follow their hearts and see where it would take them… And, here they are..

They are two very proud souls who are overwhelmingly delighted that they have finished such a personal project. They are without a shadow of a doubt, very proud of their work both lyrically and musically. Each tune tells a very different story and will hopefully connect with the majority of people in terms of the stories they tell. They are both bursting with excitement at the prospect of sharing their album and watching this space to determine where it will take them. They are well up for sharing their album as far and wide as the Universe will allow.

They state how working on their album has been a total pleasure for them both to work together and enjoy the wonderful blood harmonies and connections they have been blessed with naturally. They will never take their musical gifts for granted.

I AM Project

We had a fantastic day on Friday at the showcase event for our I AM Project!

Launched in 2017 with £89,700 from the International Fund for Ireland, the I AM (Inclusive Accessible Multimedia) Project empowers individuals aged 16-25 to take better control of their lives by exploring cultural identity, personal development and employment opportunities.

The successful one-year project has delivered a range of accredited and non-accredited training alongside good relations workshops, team building exercises and activities that focused on improving confidence, self-esteem and employability.

The celebration event included a show reel of films, photography and podcasts made by the young people and gave guests a chance to try their hand at DJ-ing, recording live music in a studio and pottery.

Paddy Harte, International Fund for Ireland Board Member said:
“The young people deserve credit for the achievements they have made through the I AM project. It is opening new pathways to learning, training and employment and helping turn young lives around. This project has successfully enabled people to reassess their prospects and take active steps to improve their lives and their communities.

“The reality is that there are growing issues of disaffection among young people in many areas across Northern Ireland and that increases the risk of being drawn towards negative influences and a spiral of poor choices. The I AM project tackles issues like anti-social behaviour, alcohol, drugs and mental health and provides young people with practical ways to change their prospects. Projects like this are critical and build momentum for change, stability and prosperity.”

Stella Glasgow, I AM Project Coordinator said:
“The I Am Project addresses the issues that deeply affect young people and gives them the knowledge, skills and competencies to build a more positive future for themselves and others. We’ve been impressed by how each participant has applied themselves within the project and within their communities.

“Music, arts and culture are a great ways to get people together and make something really special. That is happening here in Draperstown. People are coming together to raise their aspirations by challenging themselves and each other.”

Funding to the I AM Project was provided through the International Fund for Ireland’s Personal Youth Development Programme which is managed by the Rural Development Council.

Glasgowbury was established in 2003 to support and enhance creativity and build the capacity of individuals, communities, and the creative industry sector to educate, entertain, inspire active community engagement and promote social inclusion.
