We are proud to announce the introduction of our first ever comedy stage to this year’s festival.
Due to be headlined by Joe Rooney (Father Damo himself), a total of eight comedians will turn the iconic G Spot stage into the Giggle Spot for an evening of rapturous humour.
Rooney, who made his name as Father Damo in the iconic Father Ted series, will use his unique brand of humour to cap off the first ever Glasgowbury comedy stage.
Known to audiences throughout Ireland as the whistle thief, Rooney later became a household name for his portrayal of Timmy Higgins in RTE comedy Killinaskully.
Joining him for Glasgowbury’s inaugural comedy bash will be John Colleary (who also made his name on RTE by featuring on Savage Eye), Colin Geddis, Micky Barlett, Adam Laughlin, Ruaidhri Ward, Shane Todd and Sean Hegarty.
Festival organiser Paddy Glasgow said he was excited to be adding a new element to the festival.
“Comedy is something that we’ve been looking at introducing for a couple of years now and I’m excited to be able to offer that extra platform.
“Over the years we’ve tried to celebrate the best in new music and in recent years we’ve also welcomed elements of carnival and other forms of art and entertainment,” he said.
“So hopefully this will offer another platform to aspiring artists and have people smiling even more on the day.”
Glasgowbury 2011 takes place on Saturday 23rd July and headline acts so far announced include Cashier No. 9, The Answer, Phil Kieran, LaFaro, Boxcutter, Foy Vance and Mojo Fury.
